The emphasis on texture and altered repetition are an integral part of the work that I create, whether it is clay, metal, paint or mixed media. I often combine different natural materials, such as glass or metal, and use them to add contrast to the clay.
Some of my clay work is influenced by the sacrificial urns and altar imagery found in the ancient Aztec and Mayan civilizations, the whimsical and mischievous skeletons and skulls found in artworks of Mexico in celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and the look of freshly uncovered bones and ceramic shards from a Paleolithic archeological dig site.
Other influences and themes of my work are derived from the organic forms in nature, the rough and abused look of objects caused by time and exposure to the elements, and charms and talismans from cultures from around the world.
